The Committee for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics (CSVC) in Can Tho city held a meeting on December 29 for reviewing the implementation of patriotic emulation movements in 2020.
As reported at the meeting, in 2020, the CSVC in city actively encouraged Catholics to participate in social development movements.
In particular, Catholic compatriots in the city, this year, spent 19 billion VND on social and charitable activities for presenting gifts to the disadvantaged (worth 3.7 billion VND), building charity houses, presenting scholarships, notebooks, bicycles, etc to poor pupils (worth 2.6 billion VND), and providing free health-check and medicines to the poor (worth 3.2 billion VND), etc. As an outstanding example, Bo Ot Catholic parish in Thot Not ward has built 300 charity houses, worth nearly 3 billion VND to the poor.
During the event, the Home Affairs Department and the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee in city presented certificates of recommendation to 13 Catholic groups and individuals for honoring their outstanding contributions in the patriotic movements in 2020.
