The Vietnam Folklore Arts Association (VFAA) conferred the honorary title of Folklore Artist on 11 ‘Chau Van’ (ritual singing) performers and preservationists at a ceremony held in Hanoi on August 14.
Sharing their thoughts at the event, artisan Hoang Tien Hung from Phuc Tho district, Hanoi shared that as he was raised around several intangible art forms, he has received teachings from many elders in practicing ‘Chau Van’ singing since he was young.
Artisan Nguyen Tien Nghia from Hanoi expressed his thanks to the VFAA as well as to researchers for their efforts and studies which have elevated the cultural value of ‘Chau Van’ singing and helped it earn the title of ‘national intangible cultural heritage’.
He also said that the recognition as a ‘Chau Van’ performer is an honor for him and his colleagues raising their responsibility of preserving the traditional cultural art form.
At the ceremony, the recognized artists brought to stage several passionate ‘Chau Van’ performances.
The event was held under the framework of the Arts and Performance Programme of ‘Chau Van’ in the Northern delta region. The programme was co-hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Vietnam Stage Artists Association and the VFAA to honor ‘Chau Van’ singers and performers for their contributions to preserving and upholding the traditional art form.
