Charity Kitchen in Vinh Trach Commune under the management board of Hoa Hao Buddhists in the commune in An Giang province’s Thoai Son district was founded in 2010 for providing free lunch meals to poor students, teachers and laborers.
It’s hard for the charity kitchen in early years of development. Gradually, the kitchen has received increasing supports, both in food suppliers and cash, from generous people. From 40-50 lunch meals a day in early years, the charity kitchen currently provides up to 300 lunch meals free of charge to students.
At present, the Buddhist charity kitchen has separate units for cooking, fund-raising, services and coordination, with two cooking teams with 10 people each team working in exchange.
After ten years of development, the charity kitchen has provided hundreds of thousands of free meals to disadvantaged people including students and laborers with the contributing value of 5.645 billion VND.
The charity kitchen has also expanded its charity services by providing both free meals and places for students to take a rest or do homework. For many students, coming to the charity kitchen is like going home, coming to warm-hearted people.
With dedicated services of those working in the Hoa Hao Buddhist kitchen and generous supports from innumerous people, after 10 years of operation (2010-2020), the charity kitchen in Vinh Trach commune in An Giang province’s Thoai Son district has become “second home” for many students.
According to Deputy Rector of Vinh Trach High School Nguyễn Thị Cẩm Sen, the school has many students from the districts of Thoai Son and Chau Thanh in An Giang, and the majority of them lives far from the school and come from poor families. So, the charity kitchen in Vinh Trach commune has provided valuable supports for these students of the school, practically contributing to reduce hardship for students and burden of the school in providing meals and accommodation to students living far from their school.
Head of the management board of Hoa Hao Buddhists in Vinh Trach Võ Văn Tuần shared that the Buddhist management board would continue the running of its charity kitchen with further mobilization of resources and enhancement of services for better serving the poor, especially students of Vinh Trach High School.
