Seminary is a place to train priests. So when a diocese was established, one of the urgent tasks is to build a seminary.
Seminary St. Philip Phan Văn Minh (Vinh Long province) was constructed in 1943 and completed in 1944. On August 15th, 1944, Beatus seminary Philip Phan Văn Minh opened the first course consisting of 3 classes: the 8th, the 7th, and the 6th with 75 participants.
Since the opening of the first class Vinh Long Seminary has contributed to the training of priests and brought encouraging results with about 130 priests and one Bishop (Bishop Thomas Nguyễn Văn Tân) graduating from the seminary.
This year, Vinh Long Minor Seminary, one of the oldest Minor Seminary in Vietnam, celebrated 70 founding anniversary./.
