Catholics in Kim Son district makes practical contributions to local socio-economic development

Catholicism in Ninh Binh province’s Kim Son district currently has 33 parishes and 152 worshipping establishments, with 80,000 parishioners, accounting for 46.3% the district population, which is the largest percentage of Catholic followers compared in the whole country.

Over the past years, Catholics in Ninh Binh province’s Kim Son district have actively joint in social movements and programs launched by local authorities, and made practical contributions to socio-economic development and maintenance of public security and social order in the locality.

In response the campaign motivating people to develope a new-style rural development in residental areas, many Catholics in the district have voluntarily made donations of land and contributions for building rural infrastructure and local transport system. In particular, Mrs. Trần Thị Xê in Van Hai parish has donated 400m2 of land, each household of Duc Duc parish has contributed eight million VND to make concrere roads.

During the past five years, Catholic parishes have also colloborated with the diocese Caritas committe to present wheelchairs to people with disabllities, gifts to poor people and bicycles to poor pupils, and build charity houses for the poor in the locality.
