Catholics in Ha Tinh make practical contributions for socio-economic development

Ha Tinh province has nearly 160,000 Catholic followers, accounting for over 12.8% of the provincial population. Over the past years, the Catholic community in the province has made practical contributions in patriotic emulation movements launched for the socio-economic development in the province.  

In a rural development movement, over the last five years, over 3,500 Catholic families in the province have donated over 220 thousand m2 of land for expanding alleys, inter-village and inter-commune roads, and contributed over 293 thousand working days for building concrete roads, with the total contributing value of tens of billions VND.

Up to now, the province has 82 communes with religious residents have reached new standards of rural developments, including 136 Catholic residential areas such as Binh Yen Catholic village under Trai Le parish located in Can Loc district’s Xuan Loc commune, Chau Long village located in Ky Anh district’s Ky Chau, parishes of Dong Trang, Nghia Yen, Cam Lam, Kim Lam, Van Thanh, Vinh Phuoc, Ky Anh, etc.

Priest Peter Nguyễn Đoài presents necessities to quarantine checkpoint for Covid-19 in the province

During the Covid-19 outbreak, Catholic organizations in the province have presented cash and medical equipment to quarantine centers and checkpoints. In 2020, religious organizations donated 1,441 million VND to the Vietnam Fatherland Front. In 2021, Catholic establishments have been supporting over 2,577 million VND to the epidemic prevention and control work. The Caritas Committee of Ha Tinh diocese has offered free meals to poor patients being treated at provincial and district-level health facilities. Charity boards in parishes have offered free medical examination and medicines to over 10,000 people with the total value of over 1.6 billion VND.
