Catholics in Bac Giang actively participate in social charity

Bac Giang province is home to over 27,0000 Catholic followers, accounting for 1.7% of the province's population.

Over the past years, Catholics in the locality have made practical contributions to the locality through charitable activities as well as active participation in social movements and programs.

As reported, 100% Catholic households have made their giving to funds for the poor and the disadvantaged, and local Catholic communities have also raised funds to finance the building of 27 charity houses worth over 500 million VND for poor Catholic families, where heads of the management board of the Catholic communities have demonstrated as leading examples in their communities.

Many Catholics in the localities such as Yen Dung, Tan Yen and Viet Yen district and in Catholic parishes of Tien Nha and Dai Lam have voluntarily donated land for expanding agricultural canals, inter-village, inter-commune intra-field roads and rural roads. So far, eight kilometers of concrete road and 15 kilometers of intra-field concrete canals have been completed.

In particular, Bac Giang parish invested two water filters system in Bac Giang city and in Bam Dai Lam village, Lac Nam district’s Tam Di commune, and Mrs Nguyễn Thị Ngân, a Catholic teacher in Tan Yen district, has opened a charity class for 40 children.

In addition, Catholics in the province have recorded many positive results and successes in improving family economy by application of new technology and agricultural adjustments. As a result, the percentage of poor Catholic households has decreased to 1.6%.
