Catholic solidarity board in Tan Thanh district holds 5th general meeting on Catholic contributions to national construction and defense

The Board for solidarity of Catholics in Ba Ria – Vung Tau province’s Tan Thanh district held on January 3rd the 5th general meeting on Catholic contributions to national construction and defense.

Attending the event were Priest Chairman of the Committee for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics in the province Joseph Trần Văn Cử and delegates representing Catholic parishes and followers in the district.

Local guests at the event included Vice Chairman of the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Phạm Thế Mỹ,

The conference discussed results of the patriotic movement and the Catholic solidarity board’s activities during the 2012-2017 tenure, as well as elected 13 members to the Board for the 2017 – 2022 period with Priest Joseph Trần Minh Sơn reselected as the Board Head.

Tan Thanh district currently has 15 parishes and congregations with over 41,000 followers accounting for 26% the district population. Catholic followers in the district have proactively engaged in social movements launched by local authorities and contributed over VND 34 billion to charity activities for the past five years.
