Catholic solidarity board in Cai Lay district holds general meeting on Catholic contributions to national construction and defense

The board for solidarity of Catholics in Tien Giang province’s Cai Lay district held on April 5 the general meeting for the 2017-2022 tenure of Catholics contributing to national construction and defense.

The event saw the participation of Priest Chairman of the Committee for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics in the province Joseph Phạm Thanh Minh, Priest Head of the Board for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics in the district Alphonsus Khuất Đăng Tôn and delegates representing Catholic followers from parishes in the district.

Local guests at the event included Vice Chairman of the provincial Committee for Religious Affairs Trần Văn Khuê and Vice Chairman of the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee Trần Văn Thi.

New board for solidarity of Catholics in the district for 2017-2022 tenure makes its debut

The meeting discussed results of the patriotic movement and the solidarity board’s activities during the 2012-2017 tenure, as well as elected 25 members to the board for the 2017 – 2022 tenure with Priest Alphonsus Khuất Đăng Tôn reselected as Head of the solidarity board.

As reported at the event, Cai Lay district currently has seven Catholic parishes with over 5,000 parishioners. Catholic followers in the district have proactively engaged in social movements launched by local authorities and charitable activities over the past five years. The board also presented 65 scholarships, books and bicycles to disadvantaged pupils and students worth over VND 900 million in previous five years.

On the occasion, local authorities presented certificates of merit to three Catholic groups and seven individuals for their outstanding contributions in the patriotic movements in the 2012-2017 period.
