Catholic solidarity board in Cai Be district holds meeting on Catholic contributions to national construction and defense

The Board for solidarity of Catholics in Tien Giang province’s Cai Be district held on December 29 a meeting on national construction and defense by Catholics.

The event taking place in Cai May parish saw the participation of Priest Chairman of the Committee for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics in the province Joseph Phạm Thanh Minh, Priest Head of the Board for Solidarity of Vietnamese Catholics in the district Francis Trương Quý Vinh and delegates representing Catholic followers from parishes in the district.

Vice Chairman of the provincial Committee for Religious Affairs Trần Văn Khuê and local authorities’ representatives also attended the event.

The conference discussed results of the patriotic movement and the solidarity board’s activities during the 2012-2017 tenure, as well as elected 21 members to the Board for the 2017 – 2022 tenure with Priest Joseph Trương Quý Vinh reselected as the Board Head.

As reported at the event, Cai Be district currently has seven Catholic parishes with nearly 14,000 followers. Catholic followers in the district have proactively engaged in social movements launched by local authorities and contributed over one billion VND to charity activities over the past five years. The board also presented scholarships, books and bicycles to pupils with a total value of over VND 490 million.

On the occasion, local authorities presented certificates of merit to two Catholic groups and three individuals for their outstanding contributions in the patriotic movements in the 2012-2017 period.
