Buddhist Sangha in Ca Mau convenes 8th congress

The 8th congress of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Chapter in Ca Mau province was successfully held in October 8 in the province.

The congress taking place in the convention center in the province’s Ca Mau city saw the presence of Most Venerable President of the VBS’s Central Executive Council Thích Thiện Nhơn, Most Venerables Thích Thiện Pháp and Đào Như, Vice President of the VBS’s Central Executive Council, Most Venerable Chairman of the VBS’s Executive Committee in the province Thạch Hà, members of the provincial VBS’s executive committee, heads of Buddhist worshipping places in the province, and a large number of lay Buddhists in Ca Mau and neighboring provinces.

Guests at the event included Chairman of the provincial Vietnam Fatherland Front’s Committee Trần Văn Hiệu, Chairman of the provincial Commission for Mass Mobilization Lê Thanh Triều, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Council Dương Huỳnh Khải, Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyễn Minh Luân, and Director of the provincial Home Affairs Department Huỳnh Ngọc Sang.

The congress elected 49 members to the VBS’s executive committee in the province for the 2022-2027 tenure, with Most Venerable Thạch Hà reselected as Chairman of provincial VBS’s executive committee.

As reported, Ca Mau currently has 54 Buddhist worshipping places, with 260 monks and nuns, and over 300,000 lay Buddhists.

As reviewed at the congress, the VBS chapter in Ca Mau has spent nearly 155 billion VND for social charities, including the construction of charitable houses and rural bridges, presentation of notebooks to pupils from poor families, and supports for the Covid-19 prevention work in the locality, etc.

8th VBS’s executive committee in Ca Mau makes its debut

On the occasion, the VBS’s central executive council awarded certificates of merit to the provincial VBS’s executive committee, and Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee presented certificates of recommendation to seven Buddhist groups for their practical contributions in the province.
