Buddhist sangha in An Giang convenes 7th congress

The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s chapter in An Giang province successfully held on April 19 its 7th congress (2022-2027 tenure).

At the event

The event taking place at Binh An pagoda located in Long Xuyen City saw the presence of Most Venerable Thích Thiện Nhơn, President of the VBS’s Central Executive Council; Most Venerable Thích Huệ Tài, Chairman of the VBS’s Executive Committee in An Giang province; Secretary of the provincial Party’s Committee Lê Hồng Quang, and Vice Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Nguyễn Tiếc Hùng.

As reported at the event, in the 2017-2022 tenure, the VBS chapter in An Giang has spent over 147 billion VND on social charities supporting poor locals.

The one-day congress elected a new 68-member executive committee with Most Venerable Thích Thiện Thống elected as Head of the VBS executive committee in the province for 7th term.

During the event, Secretary of the provincial Party’s Committee Lê Hồng Quang handed over the Great National Solidarity Order by the State President to Most Venerable Thích Huệ Tài, Chairman of the VSB’s Executive in the province.

One group and 36 individuals of the VBS chapter in An Giang were presented with certificates of merit by the Central VBS for their practical contributions to Buddhist affairs, and 12 Buddhist groups and 15 individuals were presented with certificates of recommendation by the provincial People’s Committee.
