Buddhist monk in Hau Giang honored for community works

Venerable Thích Quảng Nguyên, Abbot of Bao Tinh pagoda located in Hau Giang province is one of typical examples in community services.  

Over the past years, Venerable Thích Quảng Nguyên has implemented practical activities for environment protection, climate change adaption and poverty reduction.

Bao Tinh pagoda in collaboration with local authorities has installed 10 solar streetlights in area 2, ward VII.

In addition, Venerable Thích Quảng Nguyên and local residents has also built an eco-embankment against landslides with 400 m in length, and planted coconut trees along the embankment.

Besides, the Venerable has provided vocational training for 25 other near-poor households in the locality.

During the Covid-19 pandemic, Venerable Thích Quảng Nguyên and local Buddhists presented 1,600 facemasks to local residents.

According to Venerable Thích Quảng Nguyên, Buddhist teachings and President Ho Chi Minh’s ideology, morality and style have many similarities, so Bao Tinh pagoda has often shared inspiring stories about President Hồ Chí Minh during Buddhist gatherings.

For his services serving the local community, Venerable Thích Quảng Nguyên, Deputy Secretary of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha’s executive committee in Hau Giang has been chosen as the only delegate to attend the exchange program themed “Hồ Chí Minh – Journey of Desires 2020” organized by the Party Central Committee’s Commission for Communications and Education in Hanoi on occasion of President Hồ Chí Minh's 130th birthday (May 19, 1890 - 2020).
