Buddhist Chapter in Vinh Long convenes 7th general conference

On January 7, the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) Chapter in Vinh Long province solemnly held its 7th general conference (2017-2022) at Phat Ngoc Xa Loi Pagoda in the province.

Attending the event included Most Venerable President of the VBS’s Executive Council Thích Thiện Nhơn, representatives of the Buddhist executive board from Vinh Long province’s districts, and large numbers of Buddhist followers inside and outside the province. Representatives of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs and local authorities also joint Buddhists at the opening of the conference.

As reported at the congress, the provincial Buddhist chapter has recorded many achievements for the past tenure, including the organization of two grand Buddhist ordinations in 2011 and 2014, and the opening of two religious administrative trainings for 463 local abbots and abbesses in 2014 and 2016.

In addition, the Buddhist chapter has conducted many social and charitable activities, and collaborated with the provincial Department of Health to expand Tue Tinh charity clinics in the province. 

The congress also selected 56 members to the provincial VBS’s Executive Committee for the 7th tenure (2017 – 2022) with Most Venerable Thích Như Tước as its Chairman.

Currently, Vinh Long province is home to 985 Buddhist monks and nuns with 205 worshipping facilities, including 126 pagodas of the Mahayana Buddhism, 13 temples of the Khmer Theravada Buddhism, 7 temples of the Kinh Theravada Buddhism and 23 worshipping places belonging to the Buddhist Bhikkhu sect.
