The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Chapter in Ba Ria – Vung Tau province reviewed its activities in 2017 at a meeting held on January 26.
Attending the meeting were Most Venerable Deputy Partriarch of the VBS Thích Trí Tịnh, Most Venerable Member of the VBS’s Central Discernment Council Thích Nguyên Trực, Most Venerable Vice President of the VBS’s Central Executive Council Thích Thiện Tâm, Most Venerable Member of the VBS’s Central Executive Council cum Chairman of the VBS’s Executive Committee in the province Thích Quảng Hiển, and large numbers of monks and nuns from the VBS’s executive bodies in Ba Ria – Vung Tau.
Local guests at the event included Chairman of the provincial Mass Mobilization Commission Nguyễn Văn Đồng and Vice Chairman of the provincial VFF committee Phạm Thế Mỹ.
As reported at the reviewing meeting, Ba Ria - Vung Tau province is currently home to 3,900 monks and nuns with 430 worshipping places, and in 2017 Buddhist followers in the province contributed a value of VND 82 billion to social charities in localities across the country.
On the occasion, the provincial VBS’s executive committee presents certificates of merit to eight Buddhist groups and 11 Buddhist followers for their contributions to Buddhist affairs 2017, and handed over certificates of ordination by the central VBS to three Most Venerables, 30 Senior Venerables, 15 Superior Nuns and 44 Bhikkhunis./.
