Ban Vuong festival of the Dao ethnic community in the northern province of Quang Ninh will be recreated for preserving the cultural tradition.
As planned, the festival reenactment will take place in 2020 in the Dao village of Son Hai in Nam Son commune of Ba Che district in association with the third Tra hoa vang (scientific name: camellia chrysantha) festival.
Bàn Vương Festival is an important tradition of the Dao ethnic group. It dedicates to worshiping the forefather of the ethnic group who helped the 12 Dao family lineages in migrating to the new land.
A highlight of the festival was “Cấp sắc”, a coming-of-age ritual for Dao men, in families or particularly family lineages. Due to effects of emigration, this ritual is hardly held at the community level.
Currently, only Dao people in Ba Che village could hold this coming-of-age ritual four times a year within the village with the participation of residing family lineages.
The enactment of Ban Vuong will practically contribute to preserving cultural traditions and heritage of Vietnam’s ethnic groups.
