Bac Ninh Catholic diocese organizes a Quan ho folk singing class

On July from 17 to 30, 2014, the Pastoral Centre of Bac Ninh diocese opened a Bac Ninh folk singing class and invited People’s Artist Thúy Hường and Hai Khen to give instructions at the class. On July 19, 2014, the centre also organized a seminar about the Bac Ninh folk song culture.

Attending the seminar were Bishop Cosma Hoàng Văn Đạt of Bac Ninh diocese, People’s Artist Xuân Mùi, Deputy Director of Bac Ninh folk song theatre and Catholics followers in the locality. At the seminar, Bishop Hoàng Văn Đạt said that with this course, Bac Ninh diocese, especially priests and seminarians could learn about basic contents of Quan ho cultural through folk songs soas disseminate  these contents to parishes and congregations in the diocese. Long time ago, the diocese developed Ten Virgin song following Quan ho style and performed this song in solemn ceremonies such as Our Lady of Lavang Marian Congress, the opening ceremony of the Jubilee Year in Vietnam. He also expressed his thanks to local authorities, the organizing board, and participants for support in the organization of the seminar.

The organization of Quan ho folk song classes in Bac Ninh diocese is one of activities effectively contributing to preserve the beautiful traits of the national culture, and make the Catholic people more familiar with Vietnam culture. /.
