On August 4, 2014, at Da Minh – Ba Chuong parish, Ho Chi Minh diocese, a ceremony was held for conferring priesthood on 17 clergymen of the Vietnam Dominican Provincial and St. Vincent de Paul Missionary Congregation, and this was the day to remember St. John Mary Vianney, the patron Saint of priests.
Archbishop Paul Bùi Văn Đọc, Ho Chi Minh archdiocese presided over the ceremony. Attending the ceremony were Bishop Paul Nguyễn Thái Hợp of Vinh diocese, priest Joseph Ngô Sĩ Đình, Provincial Superior of the Vietnam Dominican Provincial, priest Nguyễn Hữu Gia, Provincial Superior of the St. Vincent de Paul Missionary Congregation and 193 priests from the Dominican and St. Vincent de Paul, Congregations, Orders; priests, Catholic followers and relatives of new priests inside and outside the diocese.
Preaching at the ceremony, Archbishop Paul Bui Van Doc stated the mission and responsibilities of the priests in the Church. According to Archbishop Paul Bùi Văn Đọc, priests are messengers proclaiming the Gospel of Jesus, listening to God’s words and faithfully speaking of God’s intention.
Later, the ceremony performed rituals for conferring the priesthood on the selected clergymen. On behalf of the Dominican, St. Vincent de Paul congregation and new priests, Priest Ngô Sĩ Đình expressed their thanks to bishops, priests, guests… for attending the ceremony, and making contributions to the successful organization of the ceremony.
