Archaeological excavation to be conducted at three ancient pagodas in Hai Duong

The Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism signed on July 2 Decision No. 2038 allowing Hai Duong Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Viet Nam Archaeology Institute to excavate three ancient pagodas in Hai Dương provincial’s Chi Linh city.

These pagodas include Sung Nghiem pagoda (Pha Lai ward), Huyen Thien pagoda (Van An ward), Thanh Mai pagoda (Hoang Hoa Tham commune) in Chi Linh city.

The excavation led by Assoc. Prof. Dr.Bùi Văn Liêm from the Viet Nam Archaeology Institute will be conducted on a total area of 500 m2 from July 15 to October 15,

Accordingly, during the excavation, relevant agencies are requested to protect soil layers at the site and raise local people’s awareness on preserving cultural sites in the locality.

The provincial Museum and the Provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism will be responsible for consulting the Ministry on methods to preserve objects collected in the process of the excavation.

After finishing the excavation, the provincial Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism and the Viet Nam Archaeology Institute will make a report within three months and a scientific report within one year, sent to the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
