The Ramadan fasting month of the Islamic Cham ethnic community in An Giang will be extended to July 28th. This is an important festival of Islamic Cham ethnic community and it has sacred meaning for Islamic followers who are 15 years of age and above.

On these days, Islamic followers have to nurture themselves, keep disciplines and abstain from food and drink during the daytime in order to understand hard life of poor people, develop fine characteristics, be helpful to the poor and not a burden to family and society in the future.

The Islamic Cham ethnic community in An Giang is one of the province’s four largest ethnic groups, along with the Kinh, the Hoa and the Khmer. They live mainly on traditional craft, cattle raising and agricultural production, etc

In recent years, religious activities of the Islamic Cham ethnic community in An Giang were favorably facilitated by the Party, State and authorities in An Giang province with inclusion of state practical assistance programs, such as housing supports, provision of clean water, road, schools, clinics…. contributing to the local social economic development and preservation of the ethnic tradition and culture.
