The Legio Mariae congregation from 26 Catholic dioceses in the whole country pilgrimaged to the My Tho diocese’s pastoral centre in Tien Giang province’ Chau Thanh district on August 12-13 for a mass celebrating the 70th anniversary of the congregation in Vietnam.
The mass was presided over Bishop of My Tho diocese Peter Nguyễn Văn Khảm and attended by over 50 priests in charge of the Legio Mariae congregations and a large number of members of the Legio Mariae congregations.
The Legio Mariae congregation was founded by Frank Duff on September 7, 1921 in Dublin-the capital of Ireland and has made its expansion worldwide. The congregation was formally established in Vietnam at a ceremony held in Ham Luong church under Hanoi Archdiocese on August 12, 1948.
The motto of the Catholic congregation is to help Catholic lay people to live their dedication to the Church in an organized structure and contribute to the society through charitable activities of supporting the sick, the elderly, etc.
