300 artists attend the National Ca Tru Singing Festival 2014

This year's festival had participations of 26 Ca tru clubs and artists from 12 provinces and cities, with total of about 300 artists.

On August 26th, the program was officially opened at Vietnam National Academy of Music (CC2-My Dinh new urban area, Nam Tu Liem district, Hanoi).

The arts performances in the festival were evaluated on five criteria: space, good singer, good instrumentalist; promising singer and promising instrumentalist. Clubs and artists participating in National Ca tru singing Festival 2014 must perform 5 of 15 traditional Ca tru musical forms, namely: Hat mo or Hat cua dinhThet nhacGui thuNgam tho co dau... In addition, the organization board also encourages Ca tru clubs, artists to perform Ca tru musical forms newly restored.

The closing ceremony and awards took place on August 29th at the Vietnam National Academy of Music.

Ca tru singing (also called A dao singing) associated with festivals, customs, beliefs, literature, music, thoughts, and philosophy of Vietnam. This art form had been very popular in the Vietnam’s cultural life until the early of twentieth century.

On October 1st, 2009, Ca Tru singing of Viet Nam has been inscribed on the “list of Intangible Cultural Heritage in need of Urgent Safeguarding” by UNESCO.
