Thai Nguyen provincial Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS) held a ceremony on December 22 for marking the 10th establishment anniversary at Phu Lieu pagoda in Thai Nguyen city.
Attending the ceremony included President of the Central VBS Executive Council Thích Thiện Nhơn, Deputy Secretary of the VBS Discernment Council Thích Thanh Dũng, and thousands of monks, nuns and Buddhist followers inside and outside the province.
State officials at the ceremony were Vice Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs (GCRA) Bùi Thanh Hà, former Chairman of the GCRA Nguyễn Thế Doanh, and Secretary of the provincial Party Committee Trần Quốc Tỏ and Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee Vũ Hồng Bắc.
In 2005, thanks to the central VBS and local authorities, monks, nuns and local Buddhists has organized the First Congress to establish Thai Nguyen provincial Buddhist Executive Committee (now Thai Nguyen provincial VBS). Currently, the province has nearly 200 pagodas, with nearly 50 abbots and about 120,000 Buddhists. Over the past years, the provincial VBS Executive Committee made practical contributions in Buddhist affairs, social and charitable activities, contributing to socio-economic development, order and security of the province.
Speaking at the ceremony, Chairman Vũ Hồng Bắc acknowledged practical contributions of the provincial VBS over the past years. He expressed his hope that the provincial VBS would continue to well conduct the motto “Dharma – Nation – Socialism”.
On this occasion, Chairman of the provincial People’s Committee presented a certificate of merit to one collective and nine individuals of the provincial VBS for their outstanding achievements in social and charitable activities, contributing to the socio-economic development in the province in 2005 – 2015 period. The central VBS also presents certificate of merit to seven collectives and 34 individuals for their outstanding achievements in Buddhist affairs.
At the ceremony, the provincial VBS handed over one charitable house to Mrs. Hoàng Thị Hòa’s family and presented 60 bicycles to poor pupils in the province
