The Catholic Church situated in the Tien River’s Gieng Islet located in Tan My Commune of An Giang Province’s Cho Moi District has surprised and amused many people.
The church constructed in 1877 has provided not only a venue for Catholic practices for local parishioners but also an attractive sightseeing spot for visitors.
The church built in 1877 was the oldest Catholic Church in Vietnam after the Notre-Dame Cathedral Basilica in Ho Chi Minh City.
It took 12 years for completing the construction of the church.
The old church almost remains intact after many ups and downs. It can be said that the church is an ancient relic of the Vietnam Catholic Church, and a proud religious architecture in Gieng Islet.
The church has recently been repainted but retained most of its original architectural structure.
