Pope Francis presided over the ceremony of Holy Door Opening ritual at St. Peter's Basilica which attended by 60 Cardinals, 100 Archbishops and bishops, nearly 2,200 priests throughout the world, and on estimated 50,000 pilgrims, including the Italian president and prime minister. 

In Vietnam, Leopoldo Girelli – non-resident special envoy of the Vatican to Vietnam, Bishops of dioceses, priest and Catholics also officially opened the Jubilee Year of Mercy on December 13-15.
