Lotus lanterns light up for Buddha’s Birthday in Ho Chi Minh city

Seven giant lotus lanterns were positioned in the middle of Nhieu Loc canal in Ho Chi Minh city by Quan Am pagoda on May 22 to celebrate the 2562nd Buddha’s Birthday.

The lotus lanterns are 3 metres high and 5 metres in diameter with light system inside, creating a beautiful landscape on the canal. According to the Buddhist faith, as soon as the Buddha was born, he has taken seven working steps and a lotus flower bloomed below each step.

Small lanterns and Buddhist flags hang on two sides of the canal.

Thousand lotus lanterns also are decorated by Phap Hoa pagoda in Nhieu Loc canal near Le Van Si bridge

According to Phap Hoa pagoda, these lanterns are taken from Hoi An ancient town (Quang Nam province). This is the 5th year 10,000 lanterns where were used by the pagoda on occasion of the Vesak Day.

Each night, many families and young people visit the pagoda and take photos with lanterns

Hoai Thu, a young people said that this is a beautiful place with many lanterns, making one feel as if he or she is in Hoi An ancient town.

Many pagodas along Nhieu Loc – Thi Nghe canal also hang lanterns and Buddhist flags to celebrate the Vesak Day.
