02/25/2022

The Ky Cung-Ta Phu Temple Festival in the northern province of Lang Son has resumed after a two-year hiatus due to the COVID-19 pandemic, with the event attracting crowds donning colourful traditional costumes as they parade through the streets.

The largest festival in Lang Son province is held annually from the 22nd to the 27th day of the first lunar month.

During the procession, local people dress in an array of colourful traditional costumes and parade through the streets of the city. They go from Ky Cung Temple to Ta Phu Temple where they then offer large bowls of incense for the two honoured mandarins Tuần Tranh and Thân Công Tài.

The purpose of the event is to highlight the contribution of various heroes and mandarins in the national protection and construction process in ancient times.

Young and healthy local people are selected to join in the parade.

Local residents prepare a variety of trays to offer to the gods when the palanquin procession passes by.

Through the festival, local people are able to wish for a year of prosperity, good health, and bumper crops.

Various traditional cultural activities, including folk songs, dances, and games are also held at the festival.
