Bui Chu Cathedral is located in Xuan Ngoc commune, Xuan Truong district, Nam Dinh province. In 1960, Bui Chu prefecture was elevated to a cathedral diocese by the Vatican. It has many old parishes and linked to many important events related to the history and development of Catholicism in Vietnam.
Bui Chu diocese has the smallest area amongst 26 dioceses of the Vietnam Catholic Church. It covers only six districts of Nam Dinh province but has a high rate of Catholics in Vietnam.
Currently, Reverent Thomas Vũ Đình Hiệu is the Bishop of Bùi Chu diocese.
