Ban Vuong festival kicks off in Quang Ninh

The Ban Vuong festival 2020 of the Dao ethnic community in the northern province of Quang Ninh kicked off on December 27 in Ba Che district.  

Ban Vuong festival themed “the ancestor’s calling at estuary” was reenacted for the first time by Quang Ninh authorities.

During the festival, the 12 Dao family lineages of Ban, Trieu, Dang, Duong, Hoang, Linh, Ly, Trinh, Tran, Ma, Chuong and Vuong went on boats and reenacted the journey “crossing to sea” to the new land.

The Ban Vuong festival this year also featured traditional rites of Dao people such as fire dancing, wedding and naming ceremonies as well as folk singing and dancing.

In the sound of drums and gongs, Dao families go along Ba Che river to Ban Vuong Temple for worshiping the ancestor of Dao people

Offerings including Ba Kich wine, golden camellia tea, herbal trees, some kinds of food crops and breeds (dogs, pigs, goats, chickens, ducks)
