The 8th General Assembly of the Asian Conference of Religions for Peace held in Korea

The 8th General Assembly of the Asian Conference of Religions for Peace has been held from August 25-29 at Songdo Convensia, Incheon, Republic of Korea with the theme "Unity and Harmony in Asia" and attendance of Buddhist delegations from member countries, including Australia, Bangladesh, China, Cambodia, India, Indonesia, Iraq, Japan, South Korea, North Korea, Malaysia, Mongolia, Nepal, New Zealand, Pakistan, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka and Thailand.

At the opening ceremony, delegates heard congratulatory messages, including messages from UN General Secretary Ban Ki-moon and Korean President Park Geun-hye. There were also interfaith prayer and cultural performances organized during the opening ceremony.

As scheduled, Sub-themes of the 8th General Assembly for discussion at 8th General Assembly included Peace Education and Reconciliation chaired by China & Korea; Human Rights and Wellbeing chaired by India & Philippines; Development and Environment chaired by Japan & Indonesia. 

As the Asia-Pacific region contains many of great cultural, linguistic and spiritual heritages, and its extreme diversity creates conflict among nations, religions… the 8th General Assembly of the Asian Conference of Religions for Peace aimed to promote the role of religions in order to harmonize its diversity and overcome its conflict for the peace of Asia-Pacific region.

The Asian Conference of Religions for Peace is a regional conference - founded in 1974- is designed to promote cooperation among Asian religious leaders for peace and inter-religious harmony.
