6th World Buddhist Forum held in China

The 6th World Buddhist Forum took place on October 15-17 in Zhejiang province’s Ningbo city in China, drew 1,500 participants including 800 international delegates from 72 countries and regions.

The Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s delegation attending the forum included eight members led by Senior Venerable Thích Thanh Phong, Vice President of the VBS’ Central Executive Council cum Head of the VBS’s Central Economic and Financial Committee.

The 6th World Buddhist Forum themed “Hand in hand for coexistence” aims to spread the Buddha’s teachings towards harmony between people around the world to create peaceful life for human beings in a context where humanity is facing many differences and lack of self-control leading to conflict and violence.

At the opening session of the forum, Standing Member of the Chinese Communist Party’s Politburo Standing Committee cum Chairman of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference Wang Huning highlighted that China always supports the domestic Buddhist community in establishing connections and exchanges with Buddhist communities in other countries and territories for peace, prosperity and human progress, thereby joining hands to build peace and happiness for humanity.

On behalf of the VBS, Senior Venerable Thích Thanh Phong sent the message of the Central VBS to the Forum, demonstrating the will to cooperate with Buddhist Sangha of attended countries and regions in the cause of propagating the Buddha’s Dharma, serving humanity, and building world peace.

Earlier, the VBS delegation also attended a tree planting event, the opening ceremony of a Buddhist cultural exhibition at the Maitreya Museum, and a dharma prayer for world peace at Xuedou Temple located in Ningbo city.
