Srilanka president emphasizes need to strengthen Buddhist vision

On May 4, 2015, Sri Lankan President Maithreepala Sirisena says the Buddhist philosophy is the only solution for social ills brought on due to the commercialization of the society by new technology.

The President addressing the state Vesak festival at the Mahiyanganaya Raja Maha Viharaya today emphasized the need to strengthen the Buddhist vision on the national as well as international levels to create a virtuous society.

Highlighting the need to strengthen the Dhamma schools to educate the younger generation on Buddhism, the President said the government has taken measures to strengthen the Pirivena education.

The President said the government also gives priority to revive sacred places of Buddhist veneration and the Department of Archaeology has been given manpower as well as physical resources for the purpose. The conservation and the reconstruction of the Deegawapi Chaithya will commence this year, he said.

The President said his government aims to turn Sri Lanka into a country of intellect among the world community.
