Feb 22, Colombo: Sri Lanka's President Maithripala Sirisena today assured that as pledged during the Presidential Elections, an environment will be created where all communities can live in peace and harmony.
The President made this pledge when he participated in a religious ceremony at the Kaduruwela Jummah Muslim Mosque Sunday. Chief of the Mosque, Moulavi Muthalif conducted special prayer services and blessed the President.
Addressing the large number of Muslims gathered on this occasion, the President said the responsibility of the new government is to create a country where people can live in peace, harmony and brotherhood without fear and suspicion.
He said the dark shadows of the past would not be allowed to darken the future of the children.
The President, highlighting that he came to the office with the support of all the ethnic communities including Sinhala, Tamil and Muslims, assured to build the country enabling every citizen to live happily and freely irrespective of the religion they follow or the language they speak.
The President emphasized that he will never breach the confidence placed in him by the general public and said he is committed to fulfill expectations of the public.
