The opening ceremony of the 7th Southeast Asian Youth Al-Quran Reading Competition 2015 held on September 15, at the International Convention Centre (ICC) in Berakas, Brunei.
The competition will be held in three days, from September 15 to 17, by the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports.
His Royal Highness Prince Hj Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office attended the opening ceremony.
Nineteen participants competing in the contest came from the 10 ASEAN member states, namely Brunei, Cambodia, Philippines, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam. The Islamic Community in Vietnam’s An Giang province sent two followers to attend this competition.
The biennial Al-Quran reading contest was started in 2000. It aims to encourage friendship, brotherhood, and cooperation among the Muslim youth, as well as to help improving Al-Quran reading among the youth in Southeast Asia region.
