On July 18th, 2014, Russia celebrated 700th anniversary of the birth of Sergi Radonezh, one of the great religious figures and political activists of ancient Russia and Russian Orthodox Church recognized him as sacred Saint.
Center of the festival was the Trinity Lavra of St Sergius near Moscow founded by Sergi Radonezh. The main ritual celebration at Church Square was chaired by Patriarch Kirill with the participation of representatives from 15 Orthodox churches around the world. Sergi Radonezh has a special meaning in Russia’s history. His holiness and purity has inspired strong for the Russian army to liberate the country from foreign invaders, ending the internal feud and unite all of Russia. /.
