Pagoda marks the historic South Korea - Sri Lanka friendship

On May 4th, 2014, the stone-laying ceremony for the first pagoda of Sri Lanka at Korea was held at Pyeongtaek city, Korea.

Attending the ceremony were representatives of Sri Lanka and Korean communities, dignitaries and the Buddhist followers from Sri Lanka, Korea.

The stone-laying ceremony for the first Buddhist Pagoda of Sri Lanka in Korea has marked a milestone in historic relations between Sri Lanka and South Korea, since the two countries established diplomatic relations in 1977.

The construction has been started with a 960 m2 building block and later expanded up to total construction area of 2,730 m2. The construction cost will be financed by raised funds. The construction expected to be complete in 2017.
