OIC: Launch of the first round of extensive consultations to boost relations between the Muslim world and China

The first round of extensive political consultation between the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the People’s Republic of China kicked off in the capital Beijing on Monday 20 April 2015.

The OIC Delegation led by Assistant Secretary General for Political Affairs, Ambassador Abdullah Bin Abderrahman Alem, met the Chinese, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs, Zhang Ming, and the Director General of the Department of West Asian and North African Affairs, Chen Xiaodong.


Talks were centered on the means to promote relations between the two parties, the situation in the Middle East, and how to address the crises threatening peace and security in this strategic region of the world, in particular the Palestinian cause. 


The two parties discussed the issue of inter-religious dialogue which they considered as a prelude to the promotion of rapprochement between the Muslim world and China within the framework of the Islamic-Chinese Forum, and the endeavors to achieve convergence among civilizations, and an extension of the first round of this forum held in Beijing in 2012, followed by the second session held in Istanbul in February 2015.


The OIC delegation, whose visit to China will last until 26 April 2015, is expected to conduct a field visit to Xinjiang province to take stock of the situation of Muslims there and hold meetings with governmental officials in the province.
