Majority of Russian schoolchildren's parents - for extending religious studies at school

Moscow, April 6, Interfax - Parents support the idea of extending Foundations of Religious Culturies and Secular Ethics at school, rector of the Academy for the Advanced Training Support and Professional Requalification of Education Personnel Yevgeny Malevanov says.

"More than a half of the questioned parents supported the idea of extending the course," he said at a session of the public council at the Education and Science Ministry. 

According to him, half of those who support the idea believe that educational process should be carried out in afterschool hours as optional subjects or in frames of certain subjects such as literature, history, world art culture, the Moscow Patriarchate reports at its website.

About 4,000 parents of the forth form pupils participated in the research, their children studied the Foundations of Religious Cultures and Secular Ethics for six months. Respondents from all Russian regions took part in the poll.
