A International conference on the culture of Mahayana Buddhism hosted in China’s Xi’an was concluded at the closing ceremony held on November 19.
Attending the event included over 300 delegates from 17 countries, including a Vietnamese Buddhist delegation led by Most Venerable Vice President of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS)’s Executive Council Thích Thanh Nhiễu.
As reported, Vietnamese Buddhist delegation delivered a presentation themed “Vietnamese Buddhist culture united in diversity”.
The conference took place from November 17 to 19, covering topics relating to the culture of Buddhist practices affiliated with founding centers of Buddhist sects under Mahayana Buddhism in China. During the conference, participating delegates also had the chance to visit Cao Tang - founding place of the Madhyamika Buddhist sect (San Lun, Ch.), Xiang Xi - founding place of the Pure Land Buddhist tradition, Tian Xing Shan Si - founding place of the Vajrayāna Buddhist School (Tantrict) and Da Ci En - founding place of the Avatamsaka Buddhist sect.
During the closing ceremony, the international conference approved Xi’an Statement 2016 with contents including the strengthening of the traditional relation among Mahayana Buddhism of countries of Korea, Japan, Vietnam, China and other nations, and enhanced international Buddhist exchanges for fostering international relations.
