Indonesia celebrates Vesak Festival 2016

On May 21, nearly 10,000 Indonesia people gathered in Borobudur temple to celebrate Vesak Festival 2016.

Speaking at the ceremony, Most Venerable Sri Pannavaro Mahathera recalled the birth of the Buddha and stressed fundamental principles for Buddhists to continue the path of the Buddha for individual enlightenment as well as human interests.

In his speech at the ceremony, Vice President Mohammad Jussuf Kalla extended best wishes to Buddhist dignitaries, monks, nuns on occasion of the Buddha Birthday 2016. He believed that Buddhists would continue to make practical contributions for the development of the country.

During the ceremony, artists from the Ministry of Tourism performed art performances, dance and plays. In the exhibition areas, many organizations from the Buddhist Federation conducted prayers, teachings and meditation with the participation of thousands of people.

Professional scene tells the story of the Buddha's birth

Earlier, tens of thousands of people in Java island joined a Buddhist procession from Mendut temple to Borobudur temple. This is one of the typical processions of Buddhism in Indonesia attracting large numbers of people including international visitors every year.
