Royal Malaysian Air Force (RMAF) personnel in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone should always be wary of any militant threat from Daesh or other extremists that could threaten national security.
RMAF Air Operations Chief Lt General Datuk Seri Abdul Mutalib Abd Wahab gave this reminder following the unsettling situation in the Philippines over clashes involving the Maute and Daesh groups with Philippine troops in the city of Marawi, whereby it was feared that some of the militants might have fled to Malaysia.
“Malaysia is not spared from their presence and that's why I need the commitment of all members who are serving during this holiday period...keep yourself alert, informed and do be aware of what is happening within the border area between Thailand and our bordering countries,” he said.
He was speaking to reporters during a ceremony to hand over Raya cookies to 46 officers of various ranks in the RMAF at the Air Operations Assistance Centre (AOAC) here today.
Abdul Mutalib said the best approach in dealing with the matter was to cooperate with other security forces, including the Eastern Sabah Security Command (ESSCom), the police and the Joint Task Force 2 in the state.
At the ceremony, he also presented “duit raya” from the RMAF Welfare Fund as a token of appreciation to RMAF personnel on duty during the Hari Raya celebration.
The AOAC serves as forward base to support air operations in Sabah, including Nuri helicopters, to conduct search and rescue operations as well as support operations carried out by the Armed Forces.
