A workshop on Buddhist Bhiksu Sect

On February 25, 2014, at the hall mediation of Minh Dang Quang Buddhist monastery (address: 505 Hanoi Highway, District 2, Ho Chi Minh city), , Institute for Religious Studies under the Vietnam Academy of Social Sciences’, Vietnam Buddhist Research Institute  and the Buddhist Bhiksu Sect held a workshop with the theme “the Buddhist Bhiksu Sect: Formation, Development and Integration process”. The workshop was organized to commemorate 60 years since the “disappearing” of Patriarch Minh Đăng Quang, founder of the Buddhist Bhiksu Sect (1944 - 2014)

Co – chairing of the workshop included Most Venerable Thích Giác Toàn, Vice-Chairman of the Executive Council of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha (VBS), Most Venerable Thích Gia Quang, Vice-Chairman of Executive Council Chairman of Information and Communication Board of the VBS; Dr. Nguyễn Quốc Tuấn, Director of the Institute for Religious Studies. Attending the workshop included Dr. Bùi Thanh Hà, Vice – Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs; the representative from the the Vietnam Fatherland Front; scholars, speakers and more than 300 Buddhists

At the workshop, researchers, scholars discussed and exchanged several topics such as: the formation of the Buddhist Bhiksu Sect with Patriarch Minh Đăng Quang as the founder; Buddhist thought and practice by Patriarch Minh Đăng Quang; the formation and development of Buddhist Bhiksu Sect; the Buddhist Bhiksu Sect in the building of Vietnam Buddhist Sangha as a united Buddhist church

Speaking at the workshop, Dr. Bùi Thanh Hà highly appreciated what leaders of the Buddhist Bhiksu Sect have dedicated for dharma and the nation, and said that results achieved from modestly 20 monasteries and a small number of monks, Buddhist at the beginning to currently 500 monasteries is such a hard work by generations of the Sect in religious practice as well as dharma propagation

Beside these achievements of the Sect, Mr. Hà also wished the traditional values of Patriarch Minh Đăng Quang will continue to be preserved and promoted , creating a great unity bloc within the nation and the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha, making contribution to build a prosperous and civilized country in the spirit of “Dharma – Nation - Socialism”.
