Decision on official recognition of the Provisional Representative Committee of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -day Saints in Vietnam proclaimed

On May 30, 2014, at the office of the Representative Committee of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -day Saints in Vietnam (LDS or Mormon Church) Cau Giay district, Ha Noi held a formal ceremony to receive Decision on official recognition of the Provisional Representative Committee of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -day Saints in Vietnam.

Attending the ceremony were Mr. Phạm Dũng, Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Chairman of the Government Committee for Religious Affairs and other representatives from central and local authorities in Hanoi city.

Mormon Church was formed in early 19th century in United States and with its headquarters in Salt Lake CityUtah. Mormon Church is a well - known religion in the world for strict law observance in religious activities. Currently the Church has about 16 million followers in 100 countries and territories, 80,000 evangelists, 141 churches, 4 universities and colleges, 15 evangelization training centre. Mormon Church was introduced in Vietnam in 1962, currently the church has nearly 1,000 followers, mostly in Hanoi HCM City and other provinces.

The Provisional Representative Committee of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -day Saints in Vietnam was official recognized by the GCRA’s Decision No. 132/QĐ – TGCP dated on May, 30 2014. The Provisional Representative Committee will represent Mormon followers in Vietnam in domestic and foreign relations. Mr. Hoàng Văn Tùng was elected as Chairman of the first term Provisional Representative Committee (2014 - 2016)

At the ceremony, Mr. Phạm Dũng expressed his congratulation to the Mormon Church in Vietnam. He highly valued their healthy life style, law observance and community cohesion. He also expressed hope that the state recognition of the Provisional Representative Committee of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter -day Saints in Vietnam will create more favorable conditions for Mormon followers to uphold fine religious styles and gradually meet sufficient conditions in order to be recognized by the state as the 38th religious organization in Vietnam.

Mr. Hoàng Văn Tùng, Head of the Provisional Representative Committee thanked the State, Party, central and diplomatic authorities and the GCRA especially, for precious support and guidance given to the Mormon Church. The Committee promised to continue guiding followers to practice religion in compliance with the law and make proactive contributions to social cohesion and community development.
