The Government Committee for Religious Affairs in collaboration with Ho Chi Minh City municipal People’s Committee held on April 2 a meeting with heads of Evangelical churches, ahead of Easter 2021.

The event was co-chaired by Deputy Minister of Home Affairs in charge of the government religious committee Vũ Chiến Thắng and Vice Chairman of the municipal People’s Committee Dương Anh Đức.

Participating at the event included Vice Chairman of the government religious committee Nguyễn Tiến Trọng, representatives from central agencies and municipal authorities, and heads of ten Evangelical churches headquartered in Ho Chi Minh City, namely the Vietnam Evangelical Church (Southern), the Vietnam Adventist Church, the Vietnam General Baptist Church, the Vietnam Christian Fellowship Church, the Vietnam Assemblies of God Church, the Vietnam Baptist Church (Southern), the Vietnam Presbyterian Church, the Vietnam Mennonite Church, the Vietnam United Gospel Outreach Church, and Vietnam Full Gospel Church.

During the event, Deputy Minister Vũ Chiến Thắng extended Easter greetings to dignitaries and followers of Evangelical churches, on occasion of Easter 2021.

He thanked leaders of Evangelical churches for guiding Evangelical followers to practice religion according to the state laws and make practical contributions to the Covid-19 epidemic prevention, relief supplies sent to flood-hit victims in Central region, and other charity work over the past year. As highlighted by Deputy Minister Vũ Chiến Thắng, Evangelical churches have donated nearly two billion VND, more than 88,000 medical masks, nearly 1,200 medical protective suits, and 12.5 tons of rice for the Covid-19 prevention work.

Deputy Minister Vũ Chiến Thắng speaks at the event

The Deputy Minister called on leaders and members of Evangelical churches to proactively participate in the upcoming elections of deputies to the 15th National Assembly (NA) and the People’s Councils at all levels for the 2021-2026 tenure.

Given complicated and unpredictable developments of the Covid-19 epidemic in the world and Vietnam, Deputy Minister Vũ Chiến Thắng asked Evangelical churches and congregations to strictly follow preventive measures and 5K recommendation for the epidemic control launched by the health sector in religious events.

The Evangelical community in Vietnam currently has over 1.1 million followers belonging to nearly 100 organizations and denominations, of which 13 have been recognized and granted registration certificate for operation, and nearly 600 worship establishments and three Evangelical training institutions.
