The ceremony was held on April 10 by the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha’s executive committee in Ninh Binh.
During the ceremony, 20 boats released thousands of lit candles into Sao Khe River. Combined with Buddhist rituals and invocations, the ceremony aimed to bright spiritual uplifting to dead ancestors and fallen soldiers and pray for peace and prosperity in the country.

According to Seniour Venerable Thích Minh Quang, Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha’s Chapter in Ninh Binh, the prayer ceremony with lights was a national ritual in Ly Dynasty by the name “Quang Chieu (Brightening) lamp lights ceremony”. The ceremony led by the King aimed to bring the light of Buddhist dharma to all places for peace, happiness and prosperity in the country.
