The event saw the participation of Vice Presidents of the VBS Executive Council Most Venerable Thích Thanh Nhiễu and Most Venerable Thích Bảo Nghiêm, representatives from the Government Committee for Religious Affairs and Hanoi municipal authorities, and large numbers of monks, nuns and Buddhists in the city.
During the ceremony, Most Venerable Thích Bảo Nghiêm, who is currently Chairman of the VBS Chapter in Hanoi, recalled the King Trần Nhân Tông’s contributions to Vietnamese Buddhism and the country.
Hanoi city currently has over 2,100 Buddhist monks and nuns with nearly 1,700 worshipping places. Over the past years, Buddhist followers in the city has contributed to VND 161 billion to social and charitable activities for supporting the poor and the disadvantaged.
On the occasion, the municipal authorities presented certificates of merit to the VBS Chapter in Hanoi for social and charitable contributions in the city.
