Attending the event included Vice Chairman of provincial People’s Committee Ngô Hùng, Deputy Head of Culture, Sports and Tourism Department Phạm Văn Đâu, representatives of provincial authorities, and large numbers of locals and visitors.
Performing a sticky rice ritual at the ceremony
During the ceremony, Khmer people often set up a table of offerings, including tea, new sticky rice, yams, coconuts, bananas, sweeties, so on. The ceremony is started when the moon rises with traditional music, worshipping rituals and offerings to the moon.
The Moon worshipping ceremony is an important tradition of Khmer people dedicating to the moon god. The ceremony contributes to preserve and promote cultural identities of the Khmer community, said Deputy Head Phạm Văn Đâu.
