Chairman of NA’s Council for Ethnic Affairs pays pre-Tet visit to Khmer Theravada Buddhist Institute
Chairman of NA’s Council for Ethnic Affairs Hà Ngọc Chiến presents Tet gifts to Khmer Theravada Buddhist Academy

A delegation from the National Assembly (NA)’s Council for Ethnic Affairs led by Hà Ngọc Chiến paid on January 21 a visit to the Khmer Theravada Buddhist Institute in Can Tho province ahead of the Traditional New Year (Tet) 2021.

Most Venerable Đào Như, Vice President of the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha’s Executive Council cum Principal of the Khmer Theravada Buddhist Institute welcomed the NA’s delegation.

Sharing with the guests, Most Venerable Đào Như informed the Institute's training activities and the construction of the Khmer Theravada Buddhist Academy started in 2017.

The Institute is the first Buddhist bachelor training school to cater for learning needs of Khmer Buddhist followers. However, in recent years, due to the lack of collaboration between the Institute and other training establishments, the number of students enrolled has gradually decreased.

Most Venerable Đào Như expressed hope that the State would create favorable conditions for the Institute to expand its scale and training subjects in order to meet Khmer ethnic minority cadres’ need, as well as preserve the Khmer’s language and culture.

In exchange with the host, Chairman Hà Ngọc Chiến stated that during within the frame work of program on socio-economic development in ethnic minority communities and mountainous areas for the 2021-2030 period, the NA’s Council for Ethnic affairs would raise the issues related to the Khmer Buddhist Institute and would discuss with relevant sectors for recommending policy solutions.
