HCMC Police comes to mosque for making ID cards for Muslims

An administrative process for making free ID cards for Muslims and followers of other religions took place in Jamiul Islamiyah mosque, Ho Chi Minh city (HCMC) on July 10.

The event was organized by the Youth Union of the public security in HCMC in collaboration with the Department for Administrative Management of Social Order under the HCMC Police.

According to Captain Đặng Văn Thắng, Deputy Secretary of the Youth Union under the HCMC Police, this was the second time that HCMC Police has issued ID cards to Muslims and other religious believers in the city.

According to Chairman of the Representative Committee of Islamic community in the city Lý Du Sô, Muslim women wear headscarves and hide their hair, neck, and face according to religious traditions. They are often afraid to remove headscarves for taking ID card’s photo. So it took some times for successfully encouraging them to do so.

The program has completed ID card’s making process for 116 Muslims from the municipal city’s districts and wards in Jamiul Islamiyah mosque.

Accordingly, HCMC is currently home to 8,000 Muslims with 14 Muslim mosques.
