The General Department for Cultural Affairs under the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has issued an official note on February 18 to the Culture, Sports and Tourism Departments of provinces and cities nationwide for indentifying and handling negative behaviors in cultural spring festivals 2019.

During the first months of 2019, most festivals were held solemnly and safely, highlighting the cultural identities of Vietnam and meeting spiritual needs of people, the note stated.

However, in several cultural festivals and worshipping practices held in the first month of 2019, activities such as robberies, gambling, votive paper burning, violations of environmental protection rules, high service fee, fortune-telling, superstitious activities including money collection for “relieving bad luck” still remained, the document stressed.

In order to strictly observing state laws and government instructions, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism’s the Department of Cultural Affairs urged local authorities and concerning departments to timely prevent these negative behaviors.
